Ignacio Scocco was the hero scoring both goals inside the first half an hour, with Carlos Carbonero's 75th minute consolation breathing life back into the contest late on. Their chances of getting back into the game were helped when Newell's Gabrielle Heinze was sent off but Newell's held on to record the win.

Elsewhere Velez Sarsfield defeated Racing Club 1-0, which means Velez exchange positions with Racing on the table and now hold down second spot. Lucas Pratto was the man for Velez getting the only goal of the game.

Two goals in the final nine minutes gave Atletico Rafaela a 2-1 win at San Martin San Juan which saw them climb to ninth on the table.

All Boys proved too strong for Estudiantes winning 1-0 with Hernan Grana's second half goal enough to secure all three points.

Finally, German Mandarino's stoppage-time equaliser earned Quilmes a 2-2 draw at third-bottom San Lorenzo in a match which saw both sides finish with 10 men.
