Former England interim coach Peter Taylor has been dismissed as Bahrain boss after spending 15 months in the role.
Taylor took over the job in July 2011 and led Bahrain to their first GCC Games title, the first regional competition the nation had won. Bahrain then went on to win the 2011 Arab Games in Doha, beating Jordan 1-0 in the final.
However, Bahrain have slipped to third in Group E during the third stage of qualification for the 2014 World Cup with a string of poor result recently. Taylor told Reuters that the results were due to players lacking match fitness, but denied political volatility had any impact on the national team.
"It's the federation that have decided to change because recent results have not been good," Taylor said. "Some players have good talent but some players need to be stronger, they need to work on the physical side as well as the football side."
Taylor led England for one game against Italy in 2000, and has also coached Bradford and Leicester City.
