Blackburn Rovers global advisor Shebby Singh says the Championship club have been refused permission to speak to Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood about their managerial vacancy.

Rovers, relegated from the top flight amid acrimonious scenes last season, made an approach to Spurs for Sherwood, who captained them to the 1995 Premier League title.

The former midfielder, currently the coaching co-ordinator at White Hart Lane, is not the only name on Blackburn's radar, with Singh revealing that other prospective candidates - thought to include Alan Shearer - are set to be interviewed.

Speculation is growing that the club could also be considering a move for Blackpool manager Ian Holloway.

Singh told ESPN: "Spurs have rejected our request to approach Tim Sherwood - we have been told no.

"Eric Black will be in charge of our team at the weekend, as we have made it clear from the outset that we will not be rushed into a decision. That remains the case.

"We do have a shortlist and we are speaking to other people as well, but as for specific names such as Alan Shearer I cannot say anything.

"We shall carry on in a professional manner without any timeline or being forced by any outside influences to rush into an appointment."
