Paris Saint Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti could move for Roma's Daniele De Rossi in January after admitting his interest in the Italian.
De Rossi, 29, has been attracting attention from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City after some fine performances for club and country, while there have also been reports of a bust-up between the midfielder and club officials.
With his future uncertain after being dropped for the Atalanta game by new boss Zdenek Zeman, Ancelotti may now be ready to swoop.
"De Rossi is a great player, I was surprised that he did not play the last game, but I think it was a situation of the moment," Ancelotti told Radio Monte Carlo.
"He is a great midfielder so it is normal that PSG are linked because we are one of the few teams than can spend. But for now the market is closed. We can talk again in January."
Ancelotti also played down speculation linking Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a return to former club AC Milan.
"Ibrahimovic? It's normal that one who has been to AC Milan would speak well about AC Milan saying he was fine there," added Ancelotti. "I could say the same thing, but that does not mean that Ibra wants to return there.
"I think Ibrahimovic is happy to be here because there is an important project, then anyone knows the future."
