Germany have added Heiko Westermann for their squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Republic of Ireland and Sweden.

Westermann has been called up as a replacement for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, who was forced to withdraw after suffering a severely bruised foot in the weekend's 1-1 draw against Hannover.

Germany have also seen Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan and Bayer Leverkusen's Lars Bender withdraw from the squad.

Westermann, who plays for Hamburg, is capable of playing in defence or midfield. He has not played for Germany since November 2010.
