Under-fire Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath has received the backing of the club's board, despite guiding the team to their worst start to a Bundesliga season in 11 years.

Wolfsburg currently lie third from bottom in the table, with just one win in six games, scoring two and conceding ten. Magath has faced further criticism this week after he denied his players water following their lacklustre performance in the recent 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. Magath defended his measures as a team-building exercise.

However, the club's board have moved to give their manager their full support. "There are no doubts about Felix Magath," a board member told Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung.

An anonymous board member also told WAZ: "Clearly the board are not happy with the results so far. But we are calm and full of confidence that the development will head into the direction we all want - three points, maybe even against Schalke. We are not discussing it [Magath's future]."

The board member did not comment on the water incident, but the board are thought to condone Magath's measures, believing that his methods cannot be changed.

Up next for Wolfsburg is a trip to fourth-placed Schalke on Saturday, and former club captain Christian Trasch knows the team have to improve on their two goals in six games this season - the worst record in Wolfsburg's 15-year Bundesliga history - if they are to have a chance of achieving a result.

"We have only scored two goals in six matches," Trasch said. "Everyone should look who's talking and develop more danger towards the goal. Then we will get out of there, then we will start scoring goals again.

"I am confident. We can take a few good things from the Mainz game [their most recent defeat]. We have other targets and must start winning points as soon as possible."
