Mauro Boselli hopes his Capital One Cup brace against West Ham will spur him on to end his two-year wait for a Premier League goal.

The Argentine striker was Wigan's club record buy when he joined from Estudiantes for £6 million in 2010.

But he struggled at the DW Stadium and spent the second half of the 2010-11 season on loan at Genoa before being borrowed by Estudiantes last year.

Now back at Wigan, he has scored three goals in the Capital One Cup, with a strike at Nottingham Forest followed by a double at Upton Park.

"It's nice to have scored again in the League Cup, but I want to take that into the Premier League now and make my mark there," Boselli told the club's official website.

"Of course the most important thing was that the team won, but it was very pleasing to score two more goals. It's always important for strikers to score goals, and that will give me a great deal of confidence going forwards."

The 27-year-old has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, taking him to 10 top-flight games during his time in England.

But Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kone are manager Roberto Martinez's first-choice strikers in the league.

Boselli is a former Boca Juniors forward who was the top scorer in the Copa Libertadores during his first spell with Estudiantes.
