Augsburg first-choice goalkeeper Simon Jentzsch will be out for about a month as he undergoes surgery on a recurring finger injury.
Jentzsch, 36, was forced to miss games last season after first picking up the injury on his right hand but has managed to start in his club's opening two Bundesliga matches this season, both ending in defeats.
He is due to be operated on at the Hessingpark Clinic on Tuesday and is expected to miss league games against Wolfsburg, Mainz, Bayer Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen.
Augsburg confirmed the surgery in a statement. It read: "He will be out for the coming weeks. Exactly how long he will be out depends on the operation and recovery."
Jentzsch is set to be replaced in goal by Mohamed Amsif.
