Ajax have been drawn in the 'Group of Death' with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund and, as they have not reached the second round of the competition since 2006, there is little expectation that they will do so this time around.

However, Denmark starlet Eriksen is hopeful that the four-time European champions can still enjoy a successful campaign.

"It's very special, of course, to play in a group with four champions from four of the biggest leagues in Europe," he told bold.dk. "It will be interesting to test ourselves against the others.

"I believe that we have a chance [of reaching the knockout round]. We have caused upsets in the past, and we have to see if we can do it again. The Champions League means everything to Ajax - this is what we play for every year."
