Fiorentina insist there is no chance that Stevan Jovetic could leave the club before the close of the transfer window.

Jovetic, 22, has been strongly linked with a move this summer, with Juventus and Manchester City both having been credited with an interest.

However, he underlined his importance to Fiorentina as he scored both goals to help his team come back from a goal down to beat Udinese 2-1 in their Serie A opener on Saturday. With the club having repeatedly stated that they intend to build the team around the Montenegro international this season, there is no possibility he will be sold in the coming days.

"Jovetic is going nowhere," co-owner Andrea Della Valle said. "He's under contract and there is no release clause. A gentleman's agreement exists, but we will absolutely not be letting him go now.

"As far as I'm concerned the transfer window should close when the championship starts."

Della Valle also said he was happy with Fiorentina's performance on Saturday under new coach Vincenzo Montella.

"I've finally seen some of the football I wanted to see for the last two years," he said. "I've seen the fans happy again. I'm optimistic for the future."
