Arsene Wenger believes Santi Cazorla could prove to be one of the signings of the season after his impressive debut against Sunderland.
While the Gunners had to settle for a 0-0 draw in Saturday's game at Emirates Stadium, Cazorla - a recent £16 million signing from Malaga - was a frequent threat.
Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini had said before the completion of the deal that to sell Cazorla for €20 million (£15.7 million) would be to "give him away", but the club had little option in the face of the financial troubles that threatened their participation in this season's Champions League.
Wenger has little doubt that the deal for Cazorla will prove to be a steal and is confident he will build on his fine start.
"He played very well and looks like he could be one of the buys of the season," Wenger said. "He has everything you want in the game. He can play short, he can play long, on the right or left, he can play the final ball and works hard as well. He is a fighter so it is very positive for us.
"[He settled quickly and] that shows people who say you need to play a long time together. Great players do not need a long time [to settle]."
