Talks have fallen through on a loan deal that would have sent Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton to Marseille in exchange for Stephane Mbia, Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune told French newspaper L'Equipe.
"We are not attracted in a paying loan for Stephane, with an option to buy. So today there is no more talk," Labrune told the newspaper.
"We are not refusing a departure, but under such conditions we have to look elsewhere."
The future of Barton, who is suspended for the first 12 games of the season, still looks likely to be away from QPR after he was not given a squad number by manager Mark Hughes.
