Kitson, 32, is the latest senior player to join the exodus out of Portsmouth, leaving just Tal Ben Haim and Liam Lawrence at Fratton Park as they look to avoid liquidation.
The former Reading and Stoke striker's exit was confirmed by chief administrator Trevor Birch on the club's official website.
Birch said: "I'd like to thank Dave and his agent for the stance they've taken to give Portsmouth Football Club the best possible chance of survival. We thank Dave for his service to the club and wish him every success for the future."
