Thiago Silva, 27, has been a long-term target for the Parisien giants and L'Equipe broke reports on Monday morning that a deal has been agreed, with the current Brazil captain set to sign on Tuesday.

With a fee quoted at between €40 and 50 million, the transfer would smash the current transfer record for a defender, set with Rio Ferdinand's £30 million move to Manchester United in 2002. It is suggested that he would recieve an annual salary of around €9 million.

Having moved to Europe with Porto, and later Dynamo Kiev, early in his career, it was at Fluminense that Thiago Silva shot to prominence as a high-class central defender, moving to AC Milan in July 2009 for €10 million.

A regular in the Rossoneri side and regarded as one of the best central defenders in Europe, he has attracted heavy interest over the past eighteen months, with Barcelona and Manchester City amongst potential suitors.

However, PSG appear to have beaten their rivals to the Brazilian's signature, with former Milan managers Leonardo and Carlo Ancelotti attracting him to the Parc des Princes. He would join fellow Brazilians Maxwell, Nene, Alex, Ceara and Thiago Motta in Paris.
