Kenny Cooper netted the game's only goal in the seventh minute as New York made light of the injury-enforced absence of former France striker Thierry Henry and left Houston winless in their last five matches.

Elsewhere, the Seattle Sounders were 2-0 winners at FC Dallas thanks to a brace from substitute Freddy Montero.

The Colombian forward notched twice in four minutes midway through the second half to lift Seattle to a fifth consecutive triumph.

Finally, the Chicago Fire and Real Salt Lake played out a goalless draw at Toyota Park.
