Magilton parts company with Victory

March 31, 2012

Interim coach Jim Magilton has parted ways with Melbourne Victory, with the A-League club saying he did not want to take part in the selection process for the permanent appointment.

Magilton replaced the sacked Mehmet Durakovic midway through the 2011-12 season, but could only manage two wins in 12 matches as the Victory slumped to eighth place, well out of finals contention.

The Northern Irishman had said he was keen to be given a longer-term contract.

But Victory managing director Richard Wilson said that when Magilton was told he was just one of several candidates on a short list, he declined to partake in the selection process.
