Bin Hammam case to be heard

January 19, 2012

Mohamed Bin Hammam's claim against the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will be heard by the Court of Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday, a statement from the Qatari's legal team has confirmed.

Bin Hammam, who was banned from football for life by FIFA's ethics committee in July, is claiming he should not be replaced by China's Zhang Jilong as acting AFC president until the organisation's next Congress in May, nor should he have been replaced by Zhang on FIFA's ethics committee.

Bin Hammam is also going to CAS in the spring to challenge his lifetime ban by FIFA.

His lawyer Eugene D. Gulland said in a statement: "Mr Bin Hammam is taking these steps before CAS to clear his name.''

Bin Hammam will not attend the CAS hearing in person.
