With Gary Cahill seemingly set to leave The Reebok, it appears Bolton see the 24-year-old US international as a potential replacement. A fee somewhere between $2.5 and $3 million is thought to be the Red Bulls' asking price, and a deal is apparently close to happening.

"There's not such a big gap between the sides," the source told ESPN.com. "There's been significant progress in the last couple of days. Right now both sides are optimistic.

"There may be a little movement today," the source said on Friday. "It could potentially be done today but more likely over the weekend."

Ream has played seven times for the US national team and made over 50 appearances in the MLS.
