Leonardo confirms Beckham talks
Paris Saint Germain sporting director Leonardo has confirmed negotiations to bring LA Galaxy star David Beckham to the Ligue 1 club have begun.
Beckham, 36, is coming to the end of his current Major League Soccer contract with the Galaxy, whom he joined from Real Madrid in 2007. Leonardo - Beckham's former boss at AC Milan - says he is hopeful the newly-rich French side can lure the Englishman back to Europe.
"Yes, we've spoken," Leonardo is quoted as saying in The Sun. "These situations take time. We'll see if something suits him and suits us.
"I know his history and he doesn't need to tell me his past. He went to Milan and it was the same thing. There is a rapport with him. When you talk about Beckham, you're talking about something big. Now his contract is finished, he will decide his future. If Beckham thinks about coming, that's something we should be happy about.
"I think he can still bring something on the pitch with the person he is and the experience he has. If a player like him is thinking about Paris Saint-Germain that's good, and we've opened the door for discussions. Everybody's talking about PSG and that pleases me. PSG are on the up, there are 45,000 people in the stadium and everyone's happy."
Earlier this week, Beckham confirmed contact had been made by Leonardo, but denied a move to PSG was discussed. The former England captain explained he is weighing up his options after helping Los Angeles to victory in the MLS Cup final last Sunday in what could prove to be his final game for the club.
