De Rossi, 28, has spent his entire career at the Stadio Olimpico, making his debut for the Giallorossi a decade ago and playing almost 400 games for the club since then.

The Italy international's future has been the subject of speculation for some time, with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United previously linked with a swoop for him.

De Rossi has always stressed that he would like to stay at Roma, but with contract talks now grinding to a halt - despite general director Franco Baldini's assertion last month that a new deal would be signed within a fortnight - the midfielder admits he is entertaining the idea of a move abroad.

"The contract renewal? Things have stopped at the moment," De Rossi said. "I'm astonished when I hear talk of an imminent agreement or decisive meetings.

"Will I leave? Last year I considered the possibility. If I do leave, my first choice would be to go abroad. But, if an agreement to leave Italy cannot be found, I can't stop playing football.

"I want to underline that everyone involved in this situation remains calm."
