Congo batter minnows, Togo held

Congo thrashed minnows Sao Tome e Principe 5-0 in their first World Cup qualification match since 2006.

First-half goals by Christopher Missilou, Ladislas Douniama and Francis Malonga gave Congo a comfortable lead at half-time before Prince Oniangue and Harris Tchilimbou completed the rout after the break.

Lesotho surprised Burundi with a shock 1-0 win. Burundi attacked for the majority of the encounter but were caught out by Lehlomela Ramabele's 81st-minute winner.

Kenya beat the Seychelles 3-0 thanks to goals by Pascal Ochieng, Kevin Kimani and Dennis Oliech.

Ochieng scored four minutes before the break before Kimani and Oliech sealed the win at the Stade Linite.

The Democratic Republic of Congo beat Swaziland 3-1 in Lobamba after Dioko Kaluyituka and Tresor Mputu Mabi gave them a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.

Sdumo Shongwe pulled one back for the home side after the break but Gladys Bokese's 73rd minute strike sealed the win for DR Congo.

Tanzania beat Chad 2-1 thanks to Bakari Hamadi's 80th-minute winner.after Mrisho Ngasa opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Mahamat Ahmat Labo levelled the score within 60 seconds, but Hamadi rescued a win for the visitors 10 minutes before the final whistle.

Elsewhere, Mozambique beat Comoros 1-0 thanks to Miro's 56th-minute penalty.

In the other games, Namibia powered past Djibouti 4-0, Equatorial Guinea beat Madagascar 2-0 and Guinea-Bissau drew 1-1 with Togo, while Eritrea drew 1-1 with Rwanda.

And on Saturday afternoon, the only game of the day finished 0-0 as Somalia played out a goalless draw with neighbours Ethiopia in Djibouti.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday in Addis Ababa, with the winners advancing to the group stage of the qualifying competition.
