Portuguese FA president Gilberto Madail has branded the timing of Jose Bosingwa's international retirement as a "nuisance".

On Tuesday, Bosingwa followed Ricardo Carvalho in announcing that he will not represent Portugal again unless current coach Paulo Bento leaves his role.

Chelsea defender Bosingwa's stepping down from the international scene comes ahead of his country's Euro 2012 play-off against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and his actions have been criticised by Madail.

"These type of incidents are always a nuisance, particularly on the eve of such important games," Madail told Radio Renaissance.

"Paulo Bento has to decide how to understand his comments, so I have nothing to say on this, besides the inappropriateness of the timing.

"The current national selector has installed an excellent environment. These situations affect the performance of some players. I think it is an outburst from someone who wanted to be selected and was not."
