September 3, 2011

The United States, playing their second game under new coach Jurgen Klinsmann, were beaten 1-0 by CONCACAF rivals Costa Rica in Carson as Rodney Wallace netted the only goal in the 66th minute.

A penalty from Oscar Cardozo and a goal from Robin Ramirez inside 11 minutes helped Paraguay to a 2-0 win in Panama, while their South American rivals Peru and Bolivia warmed up for the start of the continent's World Cup 2014 qualifying programme next month by drawing 2-2 in Lima.

Ecuador romped to a 5-2 win over Jamaica in Quito. Former Birmingham forward Christian Benitez - now playing in Mexico with America - scored a brace after Jaime Ayovi and Christian Suarez had put the South Americans in control.

Omar Cummings pulled one back for the Reggae Boyz in the 56th minute before Segundo Castillo restored the hosts' four-goal advantage in the 65th minute. Demar Phillips scored Jamaica's second two minutes later, but it was merely a consolation.
