Liverpool's Joe Cole could be set for a move to French champions Lille on loan as he looks to reinvigorate his flagging career.
Cole, 29, has not impressed since making the move from Chelsea to Anfield last summer and was keen to secure a transfer to Tottenham with Harry Redknapp a known fan. However, reports have suggested that the lure of Champions League football in France has persuaded him to make a shock move to Ligue 1 and he is apparently having a medical on Wednesday.
Liverpool have been very active in the transfer window to date, with Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing all arriving at the club. And, having made just eight Premier League starts last season, Cole believes his chances of cementing a first-team place are slim.
The £90,000-a-week star has not even been named as a substitute in any of the club's four games so far this season and with Lille looking for a replacement for Gervinho, who left to join Arsenal, a year-long loan move could be in the offing.
Lille confirmed one bit of business on Tuesday, the signing of Poland striker Ireneusz Jelen on a free transfer following his release by Auxerre.
Jelen, 30, has followed Benoit Pedretti in making the switch from Auxerre to Lille this summer.
"I am very happy to have joined LOSC,'' Jelen told the club's official website. "This is a good club who achieved a great double last season. Having played against them in the past, I know how hard they are to play against and I know the quality.''
Jelen had been with Auxerre since 2006, having made his name with Wisla Plock, where he scored 59 goals in 126 appearances. His strike rate was almost as impressive in France, and he leaves Auxerre with a total of 59 goals in 164 appearances in all competitions.
