Joey Barton expects to play one more season at Newcastle United before parting company with the club.

A newspaper report on Sunday suggested Manchester United hold an interest in Barton, who has a year remaining on his current contract at Newcastle.

Barton, 28, has played down the rumour, stressing he is settled at St James' Park. He did, however, concede he expects to leave the Magpies next summer when his terms expire.

He said on his official Twitter account: "Nice to be linked with some big clubs today but I honestly don't want to leave Newcastle. Thanks but no thanks.

"I will most likely leave Newcastle at end of season, when my contract expires and I am no longer employed. Its [sic] out of my hands."
