Japan captain Makoto Hasebe has signed a two-year contract extension with Wolfsburg, the Bundesliga club have announced.

Hasebe, 27, will now stay on at the Volkswagen Arena until 2014. The tireless Shizuoka-born midfielder has been with the Bundesliga club since 2008, when he joined from the J.League giants Urawa Reds.
"I love my teammates, the fans and the town," Hasebe said in a statement. "I'm happy I'll continue to play here and I hope we can recapture the glory."
Hasebe won the German league title with Wolfsburg in the 2008-09 season under coach Felix Magath, who returned to the club midway through last season.
"We're very delighted Makoto has decided to remain with the club to keep playing for us," Magath said. "He has become a crucial player for the team, with his technique and running."
