Petratos blow for Sydney FC
Sydney FC have suffered a blow ahead of their Asian Champions League campaign with rising star Dimitri Petratos ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury.
The 18-year-old was hurt in the first half of Sydney's 1-1 A-League draw with Newcastle on Sunday, a result which ended their hopes of making the finals.
Petratos' injury further weakens a Sydney attack still reeling from the loss of Alex Brosque to Japanese side Shimizu S-Pulse.
Striker Mark Bridge is also under an injury cloud and will miss Wednesday night's A-League clash with Wellington due to a groin problem.
Petratos is likely to miss Sydney's ACL opener at home to Suwon Bluewings on March 2 and an away trip to Japan's Kashima Antlers a fortnight later.
Injures to Brosque and Bridge forced Petratos into action in the second half of this season but he has proved a revelation for the fallen champions, leading the line well as Sydney have remianed unbeaten in the new year.
Juho Makela and Bruno Cazarine will take on the striking duties for the final two A-League games although the club is likely to seek a replacement for Brosque ahead of their Champions League campaign.
