FA charges Babel

The FA charged Babel this week after he posted a picture of referee Howard Webb in a Manchester United shirt on Twitter after the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday. He added: "And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH [shaking my head]."

Webb had awarded United a controversial early penalty as well as showing Steven Gerrard a red card.

Babel was given until 1600 GMT on Thursday to respond to the charge and a statement on Liverpool's official website read: "Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has admitted a charge of improper conduct.

"Babel has requested a personal hearing which will take place on Monday, January 17."

Babel had earlier apologised for posting the image, while manager Kenny Dalglish had defended his actions.

"I think it is only a bit of fun," Dalglish had said. "Maybe I've been out of the game too long but let's see if they can find a sense of humour. He apologised straight away."
