Bruce has targeted loan deals for Inter Milan midfielder Muntari and PSG counterpart Sessegnon amid an injury crisis at the Stadium of Light.
Muntari, a 26-year-old Ghana international team-mate of John Mensah and Asamoah Gyan, has experienced English football in the past with Portsmouth, who sold him to Inter for £12 million in July 2008.
Benin international Sessegnon, 25, recently signed a new contract, but is understood to be available.
Bruce has moved after learning that David Meyler is likely to be sidelined for some time despite scans revealing he has not ruptured his cruciate ligament for a second time, while Danny Welbeck and Lee Cattermole face several weeks on the sidelines with hamstring and back injuries respectively.
