Garcia rues missed chances
Hellas Verona substitute Juan Gomez Taleb's last-gasp equaliser denied Serie A leaders Juventus all three points on Sunday, but they remain nine points clear after the Rome derby finished goalless.
Carlos Tevez put Juventus ahead after just six minutes and they appeared to be cruising to victory at Hellas Verona when he added his second before the half-hour mark.
Hellas striker Luca Toni reduced the arrears early in the second half and just when Juve looked to be heading for their 20th win of the campaign, Gomez headed home Romulo's cross in the 94th minute for a 2-2 draw.
Tevez scored early on with his first chance of the game. Hellas goalkeeper Rafael cleared Asamoah's goal-bound attempt but only as far Tevez, who struck the ball from the heart of the area and into the back of the net. Paul Pogba then fed an unmarked Tevez in the box and the Argentinian's six-yard shot beat Rafael.
The hosts showed more determination after the re-start and were rewarded in the 52nd minute when Toni headed Romulo's free-kick past Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and Gomez completed the comeback at the death.
Roma missed a chance to close the gap after being held to a 0-0 draw at Lazio in Sunday's Eternal City derby.
The Giallorossi created enough opportunities to earn three points but found Lazio goalkeeper Etrit Berisha in fine form to deny them.
Lazio, who failed to test Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis the entire game, are still unbeaten since coach Edy Reja returned to the helm last month. They are ninth in the standings.
Walter Samuel's header booked Inter Milan a first Serie A victory in 2014 at the expense of relegation-threatened Sassuolo.
The 1-0 win that lifted Inter into fifth place was certainly hard-earned at San Siro, with new signing Hernanes and Diego Milito thwarted on numerous occasions by a much-improved Sassuolo backline.
One lapse in concentration was punished late on Sunday night, however, with Samuel duly glancing home the winner from a corner in the 48th minute.
Bologna came from behind to beat Torino 2-1 and clinch their first win of 2014. Ciro Immobile put the hosts ahead in the fifth minute but two goals from Jonathan Cristaldo handed Bologna victory in the 24th minute.
Toro were twice denied by the woodwork as they fell to their first home defeat since September 29. The outcome has lifted Bologna to 16th place, four points clear of 18th-place Livorno. Torino sit in seventh place.
Catania dominated proceedings at the Stadio Ennio Tardini but remain rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table after leaving Parma with a single point from a 0-0 draw.
Rolando Maran's men had eked out two points from two draws before heading north and looked ready to claim their first away win of a dismal season with Pablo Barrientos and Gonzalo Bergessio especially lively in the Ducale city.
In-form Parma were strangely subdued but could have won a fifth game on the spin had either Antonio Cassano or Amauri put the ball away from solid chances in either half.
The shared points left the Gialloblu in eighth place while Catania prop up the standings with just 16 points from 23 games.
Genoa bounced back from last weekend's derby defeat to Sampdoria with a narrow 1-0 triumph at Livorno. Luca Antonelli's 10th-minute goal was the difference between the two sides at the Armando Picchi Stadium.
Livorno had several chances to equalise but were denied by a couple of fine saves from Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin.
The outcome is Genoa's first win on the road since November and has lifted the Grifoni to 10th in the standings. Livorno have remained in the relegation zone and one point adrift of Chievo, who hold the last position of safety.
Cagliari remain without a win away from Sardinia this season after Sampdoria clinched a 1-0 victory through Daniele Gastadello's goal at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
The Samp defender scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute to earn the Blucerchiati the second consecutive win that lifted them into 12th place, where they are now 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
But Cagliari, who suffered their fourth loss in five league games and dropped to 15th place in the process, have not won a league game on the road since February 2013 and lie only seven points above the bottom three.
