Cisse, 28, has been linked with a Newcastle exit for some time after struggling to recapture the form he produced upon arriving at the club from Freiburg in 2012.

Although moves to the reportedly interested Cardiff City, West Bromwich Albion and Fenerbahce failed to materialise in January, a switch to Rubin could still be on the cards for Cisse, with the Russian transfer window not due to shut until Feb. 27.

However, despite the striker's Magpies future being far from secure, sources have also indicated that Pardew still has plans to keep hold of him.

"There was a number of clubs chasing Papiss during the transfer window, but the deals all fell down for one reason or another," a source said. "Sometimes it was financial, other times he wasn't interested. He had the chance to move to Turkey but decided against it.”

Cisse is currently vying for a place up front at Newcastle alongside Shola Ameobi and new signing Luuk de Jong, with Loic Remy suspended.
