Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand could be out of action for two weeks after suffering a knee injury in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Swansea, Press Association Sport has reported.

Rio Ferdinand was forced to hobble off in Man United's FA Cup defeat at home to Swansea City.

Ferdinand, 35, had been making his first appearance since December when he was forced off after 76 minutes of the third-round contest at Old Trafford.

It had initially been feared that the former England international could face a longer layoff, but it is understood that scans revealed heavy bruising rather than ligament damage.

If Ferdinand is ruled out for between 10 and 14 days, he would be a doubt for the Premier League trip to Chelsea on Jan.19 but would potentially return for the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Sunderland three days later.
