Southampton will reject any offers from Manchester United for Luke Shaw and insist that the left-back is not for sale.

The 18-year-old, who is valued at around 20 million pounds, is a reported target for United as David Moyes looks to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

But a source told ESPN that the ambitious South Coast club are adamant that Shaw is going nowhere and both manager Mauricio Pochettino and executive chairman Nicola Cortese are determined to keep the England Under-21 international.

Pochettino stated last week that Shaw wants to remain at St Mary's, saying: "It's a very clear situation. The player wants to stay and the club is not willing to sell. What we also need to consider is he still only 18, still progressing, still learning how to be an experienced player so we need to be very calm about the situation.

"It is taking him some time to mature as a player and I think all these rumours and this speculation around him is not beneficial for him. It's negative for him. It's also very clear what the project here at Southampton is: it's a project of young players and Luke Shaw is a prime example of a young player who has come up through the ranks.

"What's clear is that the player is not for sale and the player has stated he doesn't want to go anywhere else."

Moyes has been determined to bring in a left-back since his appointment at Old Trafford and failed in summer attempts to buy Leighton Baines from his former club Everton and loan Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid.

Baines has been linked with United again but Everton manager Roberto Martinez said at the weekend: "I can guarantee that Leighton will be here at the end of the season. That is 100 percent."

Patrice Evra has been an automatic choice for Moyes at left-back with Alexander Buttner only starting one league game. And Evra has begun 25 games in all competitions for United already this season, the most of any outfield player.
