Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has defended himself on Twitter after being pictured making the controversial 'quenelle' gesture which has links to anti-Semitism.

West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka is being investigated by the Football Association after using the gesture when celebrating a goal at West Ham United on Saturday. Shortly afterwards a picture, taken two months ago, of Nasri outside City's club shop making the same sign with his arm was recirculated on the social networking site.

Nasri has now come out to deny there was any anti-Semitic intent, insisting it is a protest against the establishment and apologised if any offence has been caused.
