Sunderland have agreed a loan deal for Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso, a source close to the Black Cats has informed ESPN.
Alonso, 23, joined La Viola in the summer on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers after spending three-years in the Premier League.
Beginning his career with Spanish giants Real Madrid, he has made three appearances in Serie A this season.
Able to play at left back or in left midfield, Alonso will sign his deal on January 1 after the two clubs reached an agreement over a loan deal until the end of the season.
Left back has proved a troubling position for the Black Cats in recent times following Danny Rose's return to Tottenham Hotspur.
Using Jack Colback and Andrea Dossena during the course of the season, Sunderland boss Gus Poyet recently stressed his intention to secure quality over quantity in his January transfer dealings.
