Alonso, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and recent reports had indicated that he was intent on moving abroad, with Italian champions Juventus believed to be the favourites for his signature.
El Confidencial had claimed the Spain international was so determined to leave that he would not take club president Florentino Perez’s calls over a contract renewal.
However, Marca reports that Alonso has now had a change of heart and has instructed his agent, Inaki Ibanez, to discuss an extension with Madrid in January. The midfielder is reported to be seeking a deal until 2016 at the least, with a salary of around seven million euros a season.
Marca has also reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has told the club that Alonso is "irreplaceable."
