The newspaper reports that officials at The Hawthorns are in ongoing talks with the former Real Betis head coach and confirmation is expected on Monday.

Mel is said to have watched Albion's Boxing Day draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane, and the 50-year-old has been interviewed twice for the position.

Both parties have allegedly agreed an 18-month deal beginning after Saturday's Premier League game with West Ham.

West Brom sacked Steve Clarke earlier this month citing a poor win ratio in 2013, while Mel lost his job at Betis after a disappointing start to the season.
