Sagna, 30, moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2007, two years after Arsenal won their last major trophy with victory in the 2005 FA Cup final.

Since then the France international has seen a number of star players such as Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri leave the club and win league titles, and he admits those departures left the club with "something missing" in their own quest for silverware.

"I was upset, angry when players left," Sagna is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror. "If we had them today, it would make a massive difference. Since 2007, a very competitive team left. I would love to win trophies with this club, it's a club I love so much but something is missing."

The right-back's current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he is free to talk to foreign clubs as of next month. While his manager, Arsene Wenger, says he is hopeful Sagna's proposed new contract "could be decided in next two weeks", Sagna is unwilling to commit his future just yet.

"I've still got six months on my contract with Arsenal," he said. "We are in negotiations. It's an option to go somewhere in January but I always had a good relationship with Arsenal.

"I've been playing there for seven years and I hope we will end up on something good. First of all I want to finish champion because we have got a good opportunity to do it this year and after we will see..."
