A look at the Arena da Amazonia
Brazil midfielder Sandro has warned those countries playing in Manaus that they will face difficult conditions at the World Cup.
England, Italy and USA are among those nations who are scheduled to have group games at the Arena Amazonia, where tropical conditions will await.
Tottenham star Sandro was surprised that Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, was among the host cities for the World Cup, both because of its lack of real football heritage and the climate, which he does not feel will be conducive to a good standard of football.
“Good luck with that,” Sandro said to English press. “I have never played there but I know it is very hot. Wow! It is also a long way from Sao Paulo, where England play next. It is about a four or five-hour flight.
"I will joke with people from Manaus that all there is there is forest, river and that is it. It is beautiful, but that’s the joke. Most Brazilians haven’t been there. I want to go there. To fish, though. Not to play football.
“Yes I was surprised, because I never played there, they don’t have a good team. But that’s Brazil for you. Everybody was surprised.”
The group games to be held at the Arena Amazonia are England vs. Italy, USA vs. Portugal, Switzerland vs. Honduras and Croatia vs. Cameroon.
