Rann: Time to dig in, Saints!

Wanyama, who joined from Celtic in the summer, had to be substituted during Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat at home to Aston Villa and now faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

"Victor has a hairline fracture," Pochettino told reporters. "We don't know time-wise how long he is going to be because it also depends on personal recovery times.

"I hope he recovers soon. Right now, we don't know exactly when."

Southampton currently have a number of players unavailable and Pochettino added: "It’s clear that injuries are the worst aspect of football. Nobody wants to be injured and it’s the most negative aspect and we have been unlucky of late with all these injuries coming more or less at the same time.

"We need to be strong, we need to keep on believing, keep on thinking we can be strong and understand these things can happen in football. That’s normal. Right now we are going through that moment and we just need to keep on looking forward positively into the future."
