David Alaba has penned a new contract at Bayern Munich that ties him to the club until 2018.

Alaba, 21, was one of four players at Bayern -- along with Arjen Robben, Jerome Boateng and Toni Kroos -- approaching the final 18 months of their deals, but Bayern announced on their official Twitter account on Monday that the Austria international has prolonged his stay at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added on the club’s official website: “David joined us a 16-year old and developed really well here. Today, he is among the best and most successful full-backs in Europe.”

Alaba added: “I got here in 2008, and this has been my club for a long time. I am delighted the paperwork is finally done, and that I’ll be playing for Bayern until 2018 at least.”

Alaba has played 71 Bundesliga games and scored six goals for the Treble holders, having broken into the first team during the 2011-12 season.
