The England international has not started any of City’s last five games and, although he is set to feature in for Wednesday’s Champions League game against Viktoria Plzen, he still appears to be behind Costel Pantilimon in the pecking order.

It had been claimed in one newspaper that Stoke were set to take Hart on loan, with City signing Asmir Begovic in return, but Pellegrini insists that is not the case.

He said: "There is a lot of news about six or seven goalkeepers that we want to buy but they are not true. There is no chance that Joe Hart could go out of this squad in January."

He added: "Of course he stays."

City captain Vincent Kompany, who has been out since Oct. 5 with a thigh injury, has resumed full training but will not face Plzen and is unlikely to be involved against Swansea on Sunday.

Pellegrini added: “Vincent started working this week with the whole squad. I think next week he could play.”

Injured striker Stevan Jovetic and midfielders Jack Rodwell and David Silva will miss both games.

Pellegrini said: “Jovetic, Silva and Rodwell [are out for] at least one week or 10 days more. They will not play tomorrow [Wednesday] or next Sunday.”

City have already secured a place in the last 16 of the Champions League but manager Pellegrini wants to beat Plzen and top a group that also includes defending champions Bayern Munich.

He explained: "I think it is very important to win the group."
