The Argentina international has struck 12 times in his last 10 games for City and is the joint top scorer in the Premier League.

He feels that new manager Pellegrini, who arrived from Malaga in the summer, has imbued him with confidence while forever asking more of him.

Aguero told City’s official website: “As I’ve always said, every coach is different. They have different ideas on how to play the game and we must adapt to Pellegrini’s style and do what he says.

“He demands a lot of me during training and matches. He encourages me to be at my best at all times. When your coach is like that, he gives you confidence and the only way to repay his faith is to do my best on the pitch.”

Aguero, who has scored 19 goals in 46 appearances for his country, said his ultimate aim is to win next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The 25-year-old is likely to be part of a squad that should also include Lionel Messi, and he added: “The dream for any player is to win the World Cup. Well, it is for me.

“The expectation for the people of Argentina is for us to win but we know it will be very difficult. We will all do our best to have an excellent campaign in Brazil.”
