Milan's San Siro stadium is to host the Champions League final in 2016, according to Italian FA (FIGC) president Giancarlo Abete.

Speaking at a meeting with a German delegation ahead of Friday's international friendly match between Italy and Germany, Abete said that the Champions League final will be played in the arena once again in May 2016, seven years after Italy last staged the showpiece of European football in Rome.

"[Italy vs. Germany] is going to be a night of true football, just like it will be in 2016 when Milan and the Stadio Meazza will host the Champions League final," Abete is quoted as saying by the Gazzetta dello Sport.

UEFA has yet to announce the 2016 final venue but the San Siro has long been touted as its expected location and Abete has anticipated the announcement in a proud speech in the Lombardy capital.

"It's going to be an important appointment for the entire country and for the entire football movement, which has never been found wanting for big occasions such as these," he added. "We have the finals of the two main finals in European football and now we have to work on trying to get our sides into these finals."

It has already been confirmed that Turin's Juventus Stadium will host May's Europa League final.
