All Whites cleared for Phoenix, Glory

Seven players called up for the All Whites' World Cup soccer qualifier in Mexico have been cleared to take part in the A-League match between Wellington and Perth on Saturday.

New Zealand Football has confirmed the clearances for six Phoenix players - Glen Moss, Jacob Spoonley, Leo Bertos, Andrew Durante, Ben Sigmund and Jeremy Brockie - and Glory striker Shane Smeltz for the fixture in Christchurch.

The All Whites are due to assemble in Los Angeles a day later ahead of the first leg of their intercontinental play-off in Mexico City next Thursday (AEDT).

Phoenix general manager David Dome says all parties worked hard to resolve the issue of allowing the players to turn out for their clubs.

Part of the arrangement is moving the kick-off forward 30 minutes to 5pm (3pm AEDT), so the group can get to Auckland in time to connect with a flight to Los Angeles.

"The communication between New Zealand Football and the club since the weekend has been first class - open and honest and with the best interests of football always at the fore," Dome said.

"Everyone involved has done their best to meet the obligations to sponsors, fans and the A-League and to ensure that all teams affected have the best chance of success."
