Griezmann promises committed display
Manchester United prepare for Sociedad clash
In-form Real Sociedad attacker Antoine Griezmann says his side may be unlikely to qualify from their Champions League group, but will give everything against Manchester United on Tuesday for their supporters.
La Real went into the competition full of excitement, but have lost their three opening group games -- including a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford last month -- and already look an outside bet to even claim third place and a Europa League spot.
But Griezmann, 22, told El Diario Vasco that he and his fellow Txuri-urdin players would be fighting on Tuesday for both the three points and to salvage some pride from what has been a disappointing campaign so far.
"We want to do something to make our fans happy,” Griezmann said. “On Tuesday we will give everything against Manchester United to take the three points. We know that qualification is difficult, but while there is any hope we must keep fighting. The image of the club is also in play.”
Griezmann’s team also began the Liga season in poor form, but Saturday’s 5-0 home win over Osasuna saw them move back into the top half of the Primera Division table, having taken ten points from their last four domestic fixtures.
And the France under-21 international said that he and his teammates are gradually recovering the “spark” which had been missing previously.
"When they went down to ten players it made our work easier,” Griezmann said. “I am happy with the goals, but above all with the win for the team, which bit by bit is getting back the spark and the level we want.”
Griezmann, who has scored six goals in his last four La Liga outings, played down his own role in the club’s recent resurgence.
"I am enjoying myself and must give thanks to my teammates, as without them I would not have achieved this,” he said. “Last year I scored ten goals and I always say I am working to improve my statistics, but the most important thing is that the team continues along this good line. We are all leaders, every one of us.”
