Fellaini, a £27.5 million deadline day signing from Everton, sustained the problem in training at the end of last week and was forced to miss the 2-1 win at Sunderland on Saturday evening.

The Belgium international will now miss his country's final two World Cup qualifiers, a crucial game in Croatia followed by a clash at home to Wales, knowing one win will see them on the plane to Brazil.

United will have to wait for the scan to know how many matches he will miss, but there are doubts that he will be available for the next two Premier League games, at home to Southampton and Stoke City, and the visit of Real Sociedad in the Champions League.

Fellaini has started just one Premier League game, the 4-1 loss at Manchester City, since moving to Old Trafford.

Moyes said: "He’s got a wrist injury. He’s going to see a specialist. It doesn’t sound too good but we’ll wait and find out on Monday."
