Shin injury forced Wayne Rooney out
Manchester United settle for draw
David Moyes has revealed Wayne Rooney missed Manchester United's match at Shakhtar Donetsk due to a shin injury but confirmed the forward's availability for Saturday's trip to Sunderland.
Rooney sat out of the Champions League game on Wednesday night, which ended in a 1-1 draw after Danny Welbeck's opener was cancelled out by Taison.
United's draw in Ukraine sees them top of Group A after they beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in their opening match.
Rooney has made a strong start to the season, scoring five goals, but it remains to be seen whether he will be available for Saturday's Premier League fixture at Sunderland as the champions look to bounce back from their loss against West Brom.
"My plan wasn't to use him anyway, but he's got an injury," Moyes told Sky Sports. "He picked up a crack to the shin yesterday in training so that's made the job easy.
The FA's official website later quoted Moyes as saying: "Wayne Rooney will be OK for Saturday.
"He clashed shins with Danny Welbeck. At a push we probably could have risked him but we decided not to."
