Aguero to miss Villa trip
Sergio Aguero will miss Manchester City’s trip to Aston Villa but manager Manuel Pellegrini is confident he will be fit to face Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
The Argentina striker was injured during last week’s 4-1 derby win over Manchester United, when he scored twice. And both he and midfielder David Silva, who has a thigh problem, will be unavailable for the visit to Villa Park.
Aguero also sat out Tuesday’s 5-0 Capital One Cup win over Wigan and Pellegrini said: “Aguero finished the last derby in the last play with a small pain.
“I think it was nothing important but it was a risk for him to play three games in the same week. We will leave him for next Wednesday but he will be absolutely fine.”
But he is less sure that Silva will recover in time to face the Champions League winners, adding: “We will see in the week."
In Aguero’s absence, Stevan Jovetic opened his City account with a brace against Wigan and the £24 million signing from Fiorentina could start at Villa Park.
Pellegrini said: “For different reasons he didn't start the other games but he scored two goals and he is a very important player. Not only for Stevan but for all the squad it was an important game. We had high performance in all of the players.”
