Arjen Robben demands improvement
Arjen Robben has urged his Bayern Munich team-mates to up their game ahead of a series of crunch matches.
• Schaaf: No new injuries
Bayern are readying for seven fixtures in 21 days, with their next two Bundesliga away matches at Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen, while on October 2 they take on Manchester City in the second of their Champions League group fixtures.
Their last Bundesliga outing ended in a 1-1 draw against Freiburg, and Robben has cited that result as evidence they must improve if they are to match last season's Treble glory.
"We need to put the pedal to the metal," Robben said at a press conference on Thursday. "It was unnecessary that we dropped two points in Freiburg.
"We are on the right track, now it really begins. It is not the most important thing to be on top. We need to look at ourselves. You always want to top the table, but that just happens when you win games."
Bayern are currently struggling with injuries, as midfield trio Mario Gotze, Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara are all unavailable, but Robben insists that should not be used as an excuse.
"It’s a shame they are sidelined. We need all player, difficult weeks are coming up," Robben said. "But that shall not be an excuse."
Meanwhile, Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger enjoyed a full training session on Thursday and is set to return to the Bayern side following an ankle injury.
